Announcing Our 2025-2028 Strategic Plan – A Bold Vision for Literacy in San Francisco

Published

Dear Coalition Members, Partners, and Supporters,

As the founding team of the San Francisco Literacy Coalition, we are filled with pride to share the exciting news that we have launched our new 2025-2028 Strategic Plan! This milestone marks a significant step forward in our mission to ensure that every child in San Francisco has the literacy skills they need to thrive. Together, we are building a foundation for lifelong learning and success.

Over the past year, our team—in collaboration with our incredible partners at TNTP as well as our advisory and senior advisory committees—has worked tirelessly to create a roadmap that will guide our efforts to improve literacy proficiency across our city. This plan is more than just a document: it’s a commitment to our students, schools, and community.

Our Vision for the Future

As our new vision states, “The San Francisco Literacy Coalition believes that literacy is liberation. Through collective action, we support students, especially those from historically marginalized communities, to become skilled readers, writers, and critical thinkers”. Our strategic plan outlines powerful goals for the next three years focused on these main priorities:

  1. Driving Measurable Outcomes: Through data-driven strategies, we’re committed to increasing literacy proficiency rates and closing opportunity gaps for our students.
  2. Expanding Our Reach: We aim to deepen our impact in our focal schools while exploring opportunities to support even more students across San Francisco.
  3. Strengthening Partnerships: We’ll continue to work hand-in-hand with schools, literacy providers, and community members to create a cohesive ecosystem of support for students.

Current Accomplishments

While this marks the beginning of our next chapter, it’s important to note that we have been working, researching, and forming partnerships since our founding in 2022. Since this time, the SFLC has made meaningful progress in our work. Here are a few highlights from this past year:

  • Hired a team consisting of three full-time employees
  • Partnered with 6 SFUSD Focal Schools
  • Partnered with 6 SF Literacy Program Providers
  • Led Coalition Convening, Focal School Leader Meetings and Funder Meetings

These accomplishments are just the beginning. They reflect the dedication of our team, the generosity of our supporters, and the unwavering commitment of our partners.

To all of you who have helped get us to this point: thank you for believing in this work and for standing with us as we strive to make a difference. Together, we’re building a future where every child in San Francisco has the opportunity to succeed.
